As our neighbours to the south celebrate 250 years of the United States on July 4, I find myself reflecting with gratitude on the energy signature of this remarkable country. From a Canadian point of view, the USA has been more than a neighbour—it has been a presence in the world with enormous creative force, resilience, and influence.

Over the last 250 years, America has contributed so much that is positive: a living Constitution that has continually been tested, interpreted, and invoked on behalf of its citizens; scientific and medical breakthroughs that have changed lives around the globe; cultural gifts in music, film, literature, and innovation; and a powerful example of what happens when a nation dares to imagine freedom as a shared promise.

No country is without its tensions, and the USA is certainly moving through a challenging period. Political leanings have become sharper, conversations more charged, and the collective field more polarized. And yet, I take heart in the enduring nature of our two countries. Canada and the USA have stood beside one another for more than two centuries. That longevity matters. It suggests something coherent in the relationship—something deeper than the headlines, something more resilient than the turbulence of any given moment.

I like to think of it as a kind of energy bank account. Over 250 years, the United States has accrued a great deal of positive energetic capital through the good it has done in the world, the opportunities it has created for its people, and the ideals it has continued to return to, even imperfectly. That balance can weather short-term political turmoil. Strong countries, like strong people, are not defined only by their difficult moments; they are also sustained by their history of contribution, intention, and renewal.

What I appreciate most is that the resonance of a country matters. National energy is not abstract. It shapes how citizens feel, what they believe is possible, and how they move through the world. A country’s coherence supports its people. When there is enough strength in the field, people can regroup, remember what matters, and find their way back to what is most life-giving.

So on this July 4, I offer appreciation for the USA—not as a perfect nation, but as a powerful one. A nation that has contributed profoundly to the world. A nation whose founding principles continue to call its citizens forward. A nation whose journey is still unfolding.
